In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
JLS are a current boyband who rely on effects eg. green screen, slow motion, repetition and lighting to create a modern feel to the videos. Our song is low tempo so we couldn't use some of the typical effects you find in there videos. Nor did we have the access to a club with lots of professional dances. We wanted to link to footage of our video to the song. The song is about a boy wanting to find his PCD - 'Pussy-cat doll.' We have challenged and developed the theme to create a story within the song. This differences to JLS's convectional approach to their videos, which involves there dancing with the effects.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancilliary texts?
We needed to keep a link between our advert, digipack and the music video. Our music video is filmed at night so the colour theme is darker. We needed a suitable image for front of our digipack. We used an image of joe and a female silhouetted in a purple sunset which linked to the colour theme. This also links to the lyrics of the song PCD, and the overall theme of 'love' in the album. The song names were chosen carefully to all fit together. For our advertisement we took a shot from our music video to create a direct link and promote the main star in the music video. It is important to have an link as you want the magazine what you to look at the album and the album to make you want to look at the music video.

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

The audience feedback was very positive. They liked the london location (new hungary bridge) which created a contemporary feel to the video. Other feedback was the flunce of the shots and the storytelling was very good. We got positive feedback towards the actors and the orginally of some ideas and the effects like dancing in the stoplight scene.Others said we linked the bet nicely to the shots which linked to the song overall.

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
We used the internet throughout to blog and research programs like photoshop and final cut express were used to edit and create our magazine advent, music video and digipack. Research was very important as we needed to locate correctly. Looking at previous location photos from members of the group we were able to get a good location to work with.

Music Video Feedback.

Use of appropriate conventions:
matches the genre. the style of song matches with the video as it is a song about love and the video shows a boy and girl together.the video matches the pace of the song.

Relationships between lyrics/sound/visuals:
Lyrics about a girl linking to the video. Lyrics and visuals show connection to the song and what it is about. tells a story about relationship.

Representation of the artist:
Close ups of lip syncing. close up of the artist, to make connection with the audience.

Stratergies to engage audience:
It has a love story attached to it. being set in London - everyone knows it, the changing of scenes / location keeps it interesting. also close up shots, keep audience engages as they can identify with the artist.

Effectiveness of cinematography/editing/mise en scene:
simple editing. bedroom scene, London scene jumping from each other is good. close up shots show the "love story" well. good use of different locations, this was effective in keeping the audience engaged and helping to tell the story. good locations.

Connor's evaluation draft

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
From our music video if you muted the sound you could probably guess the theme of the song because our video is a very stereotypical cheesy pop video matching the song. In the video we show dancing, passionate singing, a storyline and all parts linking to the lyrics. These are all things you see in a normal conventional pop song singing about love which ours is.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancilliary texts?
The CD cover matches our music video quite well, if you look at the main picture on the album then you see a silhouette of a male and female pairing, this links in with the lyrics of our song, PCD, as it says, "you can be my PCD" (PCD meaning pussy cat doll). This shows our intent to put focus on the possible lovers throughout our album starting with the thought of her being his PCD in our music video.
For the advertisement i used a good shot from the music video to promote the album and music video, this proving effective as it shows off the main star and singer in the video.

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?
feedback from audience shows we did a really good job. Everyone commented on the storyline which is clear, simple and effective. The location was another factor in helping to make it a good video. shooting in London proved really effective in the fact it was easy to find great shots.

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
For our research we looked at some still shots that a member of our group had previously photographed in a few locations in London and decided which ones we liked best to use for our location.
